HCC NEWS
HADDY'S GARDEN
HCC children at Central Afterschool Program will break ground on a new garden plot on school grounds in honor of the 150th anniversary of the discovery of our dinosaur, Hadrosaurus foulkii.
Program Supervisor and Master Gardener, Sharon Vogel, has planned the garden, which will feature plants which were in existence during prehistoric times. The children will tend the garden as part of their afterschool activities.
On May 14, 2009, the children of the Central Afterschool Program invite the community to stop by at 3:30 p.m. for the official "groundbreaking" and dinosaur themed treats.
The event is planned to coincide with the NJ School-Age Care Coalition's initiative, "Celebrating Afterschool: Outdoors in the Garden State." The goal of the campaign is to get children active outdoors to improve health and reduce childhood obesity.
HCC would like to thank the following people/organizations for donations which have helped to make the garden a reality:
- The Haddon Fortnightly EMD, for financial support and donations of plants
- The "Blue Ribbon Winners" of the Haddonfield Garden Club, for financial and moral support.
- Mr. Bowley and the Central School PTA, for permission/assistance in locating the garden
- Executive Director, Denise Sellers, for a donation in memory of her aunt
Alumni Pride!
Congratulations to HMS 8th Grader Francesca Collins. Francesca received an award from the Lawnside Historical Society for her poem entitled " Flowing Light". The poem is on display in the HMS office. Francesca is a former HCC participant!
Haddonfield Child Care is a private, not-for-profit organization founded to provide care for kindergarten through eighth grade children before and after their regular school hours. Enrollment is on a first-come, first served basis. This care is provided on site at each of the Haddonfield schools currently being served by Haddonfield Child Care:
- J.F. Tatem School
- Elizabeth Haddon School
- Central School
- Haddonfield Middle School
Haddonfield Child Care is a private, non-profit organization, and our by-laws require that we have at least one parent representative from each participating school on our Board of Trustees. This tradition of a primarily parent-run Board is what makes HCC unique among local after school programs.
Wanted: A Few Good Board Members
If you are interested in representing your child's school on our Board, please call Executive Director Denise Sellers at the HCC Office,429-1603, for more details.
