LOOKING FOR SOME EXTRA ENRICHMENT FOR YOUR KINDERGARTNER?

THERE ARE STILL SOME SPACES AVAILABLE FOR THE HCC  2010-11 EXTENDED DAY KINDERGARTEN PROGRAM (EDKP)!

Registration for the 2010-11 session of the HCC Extended Day Kindergarten Program (EDKP) must be done in person at the HCC Office.

Space in the Extended Day Kindergarten Program is limited, and enrollment is on a first-come, first-served basis.

Registration for EDKP is separate and distinct from kindergarten registration. In order to register for the EDKP, parents must provide the following:

These forms are available in advance on this website, the Haddonfield Public Schools website, or from the HCC Office; however, no EDKP registrations may be done on line..

The Extended Day Kindergarten Program, which provides wraparound child care for the half day kindergarten sessions, is open to all children enrolled in the Haddonfield Public School kindergartens.  HCC is a private, non-profit organization, which works cooperatively with the public schools to provide care for working families. The program is tuition based, with a yearly fee divided into ten equal monthly installments.  Tuition is billed in advance, and based on the registered schedule of attendance.

Care is available as early as 7:30 a.m., and as late as 6:00 p.m., Monday through Friday, on days when school is in session.  The EDKP is housed at Central School, with transportation provided to or from J. F. Tatem and Elizabeth Haddon kindergartens.

The EDKP is licensed by the State of NJ, and meets or exceeds all programmatic, staffing, and safety standards set by the licensing agency.  The program, which has been in operation since 1986, is designed to complement the kindergarten curriculum with developmentally appropriate activities including arts, literature, and physical activity in a relaxed, learning-through-play environment.  Whether a necessity for child care, or an optional "extra", many parents have agreed that EDKP is a fun and exciting part of their child's kindergarten year experience.

Further details about the program may be obtained by calling the HCC Office at 429-1603.

HCC TO CELEBRATE "LIGHTS ON AFTERSCHOOL" IN OCTOBER WITH ENVIRONMENTAL PROJECT

Haddonfield Child Care will once again join the nationwide celebration of "Lights On Afterschool" on October 21, 2010.  Designed to showcase the excellent programs providing after school care to millions of children throughout the country, "Lights On" celebrations take place in towns small and large, with a variety of events.

Last year, HCC's celebration featured a life sized chess game at Central School, with Mayor Tish Colmbi, Commissioner Ed Borden, and school principals Dr. Noah Tennant and Mr. Roger Bowley as featured participants.

This year, in addition to activities at each site, a very special month-long celebration will take place in October as HCC combines nature and art with an exhibit at Palmyra Cove Wildlife Refuge

HCC artist-in-residence Lydia Brown will work with the children at all of our program sites to prepare an exhibit of found art made from natural materials and other objects collected along the banks of the Delaware River.  Program Supervisor Sharon Vogel will work with the children at her Central afterschool program to collect and grow plants from along the river bank for the gardens they maintain at their elementary school.

Diane Genco, Executive Director of the NJ School-Age Care Coalition, says she is "very excited" by the project bing planned, and is delighted that HCC will include environmental activities in the celebration of " Lights On." NJSACC has agreed to be a co-sponsor of the project as part of its "Outdoors in the Garden State" initiative.

All HCC families are invited to participate in this exciting environmental adventure.  For more information, call the HCC Office at 429-1603.

Ever wonder what kids do in the afterschool programs in Haddonfield?  Check out photos of last year's "Lights On" celebration.

HCC NEWS

BREAKING NEWS ... HCC WELCOMES A NEW SUPERVISOR!

Elizabeth Haddon's afterschool program will be welcoming new staff member Jessica LaForte when school opens September 7.  A former preschool teacher and Rowan graduate, Jessica plans to work for HCC while she continues her education in preparation for a long career working with children. Welcome, Jessica!

Jessica replaces long-time HCC employee, Caitlin Reilly.  We were sad to see Cait go, but wish her luck as she returns to college to complete her degree.  Cait hailed from a long line of HCC staff members.  Her mother, Denise, was one of our first teachers. Cait's sister Erin is currently on staff at Central, and Cait, Erin, and their sister Colleen have all been recipients of the HCC Deborah Hammel Memorial Award, given to HMHS seniors as recognition of their work in the programs as high school aides.

HCC ALUMNI NEWS

We're Proud of Our HCC "STARS!"

Congratulations to HCC alumni Chris Lind and Emily Vick, who recently displayed their performance talents in the area! Chris and Emily were among the first group of children who attended HCC back in the late '80s, and their mothers were part of the group of parents who founded Haddonfield Child Care.

Chris, who has worked at Carnegie Hall as well as teaching in afterschool programs (including HCC!) to support his career, recently sang at the World Cafe in Philadelphia,

Emily, who is a working actress, has toured nationally in stage shows. She performed recently at Haddonfield Plays and Players, to benefit the HMHS "Lights, Camera, Action!" project for renovation of the high school auditorium.

Both Chris and Emily are living in New York City as they pursue their careers in the performing arts.

Congratulations also to HCC alum (and former Olympian) Erin Donahue, who recently competed in the Emerald Nuts Midnight Run through Central Park on New Year's Eve.  Erin added this race to her impressive list of wins, finishing ahead of all other female runners in 21 minutes, 22 seconds.  Erin was known for running ahead of all of the other children on the high school track when she attended EDKP at HMHS as a five year old!

Another member of the HCC family, Lauren DeLong, runs triathalons to benefit the Leukemia Society.  Lauren and her brother, Christian have both worked for HCC, and their mom, Ginny, is a former HCC Board of Trustees President.

And last, but certainly not least, congratulations to Sloan Fisk, who was recently awarded his SECOND Bronze Star for meritorious service in the US Armed Forces overseas.  Sloan and his sister Amanda both attended HCC at Tatem School.
