2012-13 Kindergarten Parents ... Need Information About EDKP?

Please stop by the HCC Extended Day Kindergarten (EDKP) Room just prior to the district's Kindergarten Information Program on January 19.

HCC will host an open house and information session at 6:15 p.m. in Room 14 of Central School. Executive Director Denise Sellers and Program Supervisor Rose Ellen Miller will be available to answer questions until the 7:00 district sponsored program begins.

Is A Half Day of Kindergarten Enough For Your Child?

Looking For An Opportunity For Enrichment and Extra Hours for Your Kindergartener? Or Need Occasional Care to Back Up Your Current Child Care Arrangement?

Haddonfield Child Care's Extended Day Kindergarten Program (EDKP) provides daily opportunities for your child to learn and grow socially, emotionally, and academically through enriching activities led by qualified, caring and experienced staff.

The Extended Day Kindergarten Program, which provides wraparound child care for the half day kindergarten sessions, is open to all children enrolled in the Haddonfield Public School kindergartens. HCC is a private, non-profit organization, which has worked cooperatively with the public schools for over twenty five years to provide care for working families. The program is tuition based, with a yearly fee divided into ten equal monthly installments. Tuition is billed in advance, and based on the registered schedule of attendance.

EDKP is available on a one to five day per week schedule, with both morning and afternoon kindergarten wraparound sessions. Before and After School care is also available, as early as 7:30 a.m., and as late as 6:00 p.m., Monday through Friday, on days when school is in session. The

EDKP is housed at Central School, with transportation provided to or from J. F. Tatem and Elizabeth Haddon kindergartens.

The EDKP is licensed by the State of NJ, and meets or exceeds all programmatic, staffing, and safety standards set by the licensing agency.

The program, which has been in operation since 1986, is designed to complement the kindergarten curriculum with developmentally appropriate activities including arts, literature, science and technology, social growth and development, and physical activity. The curriculum is based on the latest research, which encourages early childhood learning in an enriching, yet relaxed, learning-through-play environment. A stable, experienced, and fully qualified and trained staff oversee a program which has proven popular with generations of Haddonfield children. Whether a necessity for child care, or an optional "extra", hundreds of parents have agreed that EDKP is a fun and exciting part of their child's kindergarten year experience.

Further details about the program may be obtained by calling the HCC Office at 429-1603.

REGISTRATION FOR EDKP

2011-12 EDKP

Space is still available in the 2011-12 EDKP.  Parents may select a one to five day per week schedule, or register on a per diem basis for occasional use.

These forms are available for download on this website, the Haddonfield Public Schools website, or may be requested from the HCC Office. However, EDKP registration must be done in person; no EDKP registrations may be done on line.

2012-13 EDKP

Registration for the 2012-13 EDKP will begin at Kindergarten Registration Day, January 26, 2012, at Central Elementary School.  Parents wishing to register may download the 2012-13 HCC Registration Form, and bring the completed form with them to Kindergarten Registration along with a check for $50, made payable to "HCC."  Registration is on a first come, first served basis, and doors open at 7:30 a.m.  Registration must be done in person, either on the 26th, or after that date at the HCC Office.  A non-refundable $150 deposit will be required in March to hold the space for fall.

NEED OCCASIONAL CHILD CARE?  HCC CAN HELP OUT  WITH "PER DIEM" ENROLLMENT!

Many parents have known and trusted Haddonfield Child Care for before and after school care in Haddonfield for over 25 years.   Over one hundred and fifty children attend HCC programs on a regular daily basis throughout the school year.  Working parents who need a safe, secure and enriching environment for their children each day turn to HCC as the place for high quality, dependable care.

But many Haddonfield parents are unaware that, for a few dollars per month, Haddonfield Child Care can also provide a safety net to meet their occasional or emergency before or after school child care needs.  By registering on a “per diem” basis for only a $5 per month fee, parents can rest assured that if their typical arrangements fall through, they can call HCC to arrange for a day or two of care.  If current child care plans fail entirely … grandma retires to Florida, a nanny breaks a leg … HCC can be a quick and easy transition to substitute care.  And for parents who might need sudden, occasional, or short term child care to attend meetings or schedule doctor appointments, arrangements made in advance with HCC can be a lifesaver.

Children must be fully registered and enrolled in advance to use the program. Fees for the per diem care are charged after the fact, and participating families are billed only for actual days used. In many cases, care can be arranged on a same day basis once a child is fully enrolled.

Why worry about sudden child care needs? For more information about Haddonfield Child Care and its “per diem” program, call the HCC Office at (856) 429-1603

HCC BREAKING NEWS

HCC Recognized by NAA President and CEO Dr. Paul Young!

In two of his recent newsletters sent to the national afterschool community, National AfterSchool Association President and CEO, Dr. Paul G. Young, featured HCC for outstanding accomplishments.

First, Dr. Young recognized Director Denise Sellers for her article, "Nana for a New Generation," which was published in the August issue of the journal Afterschool Matters

 (link: http://www.robertbownefoundation.org/pdf_files/2010_asm_june.pdf )

In a subsequent issue of the newsletter, he highlighted the quality of the HCC website.  In recommending that readers visit the site, he wrote, "Not only will you discover a great afterschool program website, you’ll find lots of great ideas from New Jersey Afterschool Ambassador Denise Sellers and the Haddonfield (NJ) childcare program. Read about how she recognizes and stays connected with former participants. Success is about all about building relationships. "

Dr. Young, a former elementary principal who went on to run afterschool programs before assuming leadership of the national professional organization,  commented, “It is obvious to me that the kids in Haddonfield have a great program.”

Thanks, Dr. Young!  We think it's a great program, too!

HCC ALUMNI HAPPENINGS

Updates and news about our past participants ...

We recently heard from Robert Backer, alum of our former Christ the King afterschool program.  Robert reports "I left high school early to attend community college (BCC), graduated to Drexel, and went on to grab a masters in Psychology from UPenn. I work now as a prof of psych, a hypnotherapist/life coach, and a therapist for teens. " He spoke postively of his days at the program, and fondly of the staff, " I remember having meetings where you included us in decision-making... There was a lot of great crafts and projects the program offered too, with good staff. I was fortunate to be involved." Robert also mentioned that his mom is now happily adjusting to life as a retiree.  We wish them both well!

We also heard from Chris Lind, one of our first "HCC kids," and his mother, Pat O'Rourke, who was an HCC founder.  Chris, a singer living in New York City, recently made an appearance back home in Haddonfield at Jersey Java, giving some current HCC kids a chance to hear one of their predecessors. He is scheduled to perform at the Tin Angel in Philadelphia in November.

John Ryan, who attended HCC and worked in our programs, has become an afterschool care professional!  John is currently designing software curriculum for use in afterschool programs. John's sister, Marja Ryan, recenly had her independent film, "Four Faced Liar," on the indy film circuit, including a screening in London, and received an LA Ovations nomination for her play "Dysnomia."  John and Marja's mom, Dyanne DiSalvo Ryan, is the author of very successful children's books.  Last spring she came back to Elizabeth Haddon School to read for the children in our program during "Read Across America" week.

Lauren DeLong, who attended our EDKP and whose mom, Ginny, was a founder and former HCC Board President, continues to successfully participate in triathalon events.  She recently did the Half Ironman.  Lauren's passion is to help cure blood cancers through the Leukemia and Lymphoma Society's Team in Training.  Lauren is currently on her way back to NJ from Colorado, where she worked for Comcast.  She plans to begin a graduate program in sports psychology soon. Her brother, Christian, who attended the program and worked for us briefly, is now enjoying an exciting position with the Miami Heat!

Another former HCC Board Member, Dr. Paul Koniges, recently updated us on his three children, Audrey, Katie, and Craig.  Audrey and Katie have graduated from college and are now working in management at Plumpjack Squaw Valley Inn near Lake Tahoe, and Forever 21, Central NJ, respectively. Brother Craig recently garduated from Rutgers, majoring in European Studies, and hopes to attend graduate school in Hungary.

Do you have news about about a past HCC program participant?  We'd love to hear about it!
