In December, when we learned that there would be no room for EDKP in the public schools next fall, we were very concerned, having heard that licensing a program in a non-public school setting could take over a year to accomplish. Since the 2016-17 school year would be the 30th anniversary of EDKP, we were sad to think that we might have to end a program which has served so many children and families so well over the past three decades.
But we knew that Haddonfield, like HCC, is committed to the best for the children in the community, whatever that takes to accomplish. We put the word out, and within 24 hours we began to see local people and organizations step up to help. Now, just two months later, we are well on our way to securing a license to re-locate EDKP to very cheerful and age appropriate space in the Lutheran Church of our Savior, located on Wayne Avenue in Haddonfield, not far from Tatem School.
The plan is to have one session of EDKP, in the morning, with children attending afternoon kindergarten. Transportation to kindergarten at all three public schools will be provided and included in tuition, as it has always been.
As a result of this progress, we are happy to announce that we are finally prepared to begin the EDKP registration postponed from January.
Families currently enrolled in HCC have the opportunity for advance registration of younger siblings beginning today, and lasting until next Wednesday, February 24 at 3:00 pm. Later that day, from 4:30 to 6:00 pm, we will open registration to all families with children who will be attending kindergarten in the Haddonfield School District.
The public registration will be held at the current EDKP classroom, A129, at Haddonfield Memorial High School. Parents wishing to register should not arrive before 4 pm, in order to avoid a bottleneck at HMHS as students leave and EDKP children are being picked up by their parents. No registrations of new families will be accepted by mail or prior to February 24.
Space will be limited, and registration will be on a first come, first served basis, so parents who need the program are urged to attend the open registration. Thereafter, if any spaces remain, you may register in person at the HCC Office, Room 202 at Elizabeth Haddon School.
All necessary forms will be on our website to download later this week, and will also be available at the registration event.
Thank you to all of the families who have been waiting patiently for this good news!
Please feel free to call the HCC Office at 429-1603 if you have any questions.
